One benefit of being in County Durham, is the proximity to some beautiful scenery. The Durham Coastal Footpath stretches for mile upon mile along sandy beaches, framed by cliffs, industrial landscapes and bird reserves. Inland, moorlands loom in a kaleidoscope of changing colours.
It's a well-kept secret, but one well worth unearthing. The local photography club members delight in sharing the gems which typify the neighbourhood, steeped as it is in church and mining history.
Durham is a delight and worth a detour or a visit in its own right.
